Ten Lessons I've Learned...

ISE started options trading on May 26, 2000. ISE’s co-founder and President and CEO, Gary Katz, shares the Top 10 lessons he has learned in the last 10 years:

  • DO improve continuously – Kaizen.

  • Don’t let your ego or emotions get in the way of smart business decisions.

  • DO listen…carefully.

  • DON'T ever celebrate a competitor’s system failure.

  • DO surround yourself with brilliant, hard working, dedicated employees.

  • DON'T forget: running a business is like climbing an ice mountain; don’t stand still, you will slide backwards.

  • DO remember that your customers always have something important to say, so pay attention even if you don’t agree.

  • DON'T allow for surprises – for your board or your employees.

  • DO share success with the people that work for you and never ask them to do what you would not do yourself.

  • DON'T forget where you came from and who helped you get to where you are.
